be beautiful poem – on developing inner beauty
By Shah Bisma Manzoor
When you are old, down with the aged face
Recall the beauty of your face that fled away.
The flamboyant elegance that you flaunted once
is dead somewhere, buried in the ashen look.
You admired yourself in front of the mirror
Chuckling sarcastically, the mirror knew the end.
It too secretly would chide you for the arrogance
The pride you carried for your wavy strands.
Your gait- How passionately you would carry it along!
The dead conscience too never seemed to admonish you
Alas! Beautiful they called you: the kohl appealed to them.
The false pulchritude betrayed you all the time.
And now, when the charm of your youth is dead
Abandoned you felt, all deserted and forsaken.
No men came to shake hand, to pass a smile.
For no more beautiful you appeared to them.
It is the serenity, the loveliness and modesty,
The paucity of arrogance, the absence of haughtiness
Sympathy and empathy , love and sincerity
– all that makes you beautiful, an immortal one.
Be beautiful in your actions, lovely in your deeds
Carry a pilgrim soul within you, an awaken conscience
Let you be beautiful till eternity, let you be alive for ages
You grace is dead, let your elegance of deeds be forever
