Khalid bin Walid (radi Allahu anhu) narrated the following hadith:
A Bedouin came one day to Prophet Muhammad (sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam) and said to him, “O Messenger of Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) I have come to ask you a few questions about the affairs of this life and the Hereafter.” “Ask what you wish”, said RasulAllah (sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam).
Q1. I would like to be the most learned of men.
A. Fear Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) and you will be the most learned of men.
Q2. I wish to be the richest man in the world.
A. Be content and you will the the richest man in the world.
Q3. I would like to be the most just man.
A. Desire for others what you desire for yourself, and you will be the most just of men.
Q4. I want to be the best of men.
A. Do good to others and you will be the best of men.
Q5. I wish to the most favored by Allah (azza wa jall).
A. Engage as much as you can in Allah (azza wa jall)’s praise and you will be the most favored by Him.
Q6. I would like to complete my faith.
A. If you have good manners you will complete your faith.
Q7. I wish to among those who are Muhsineen.
A. Adore Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) as if you see Him. If you don’t see Him, He sees you. In this way you will be among those who are Muhsineen.
Q8. I wish to be obedient to Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala).
A. If you observe Allah (azza wa jall)’s commands you will be obedient.
Q9. I would like to be free from all sins.
A. Bathe yourself from impurities and you will be free from all sins.
Q10. I would like to be raised on the Day of Judgement in the light.
A. Don’t wrong yourself or any other creature, and you will be raised on the Day of Judgement in the light.
